The agency works to develop a strengthened community with balanced resource allocation. Core agency programming incorporates the provision of resources which create permanency and stability for homeless and low income residents throughout New York City.

Reports to : Chief Executive Officer
Supervises: Controller, Assistant Controller, 5+ staff

Basic Function:
The chief financial officer position is accountable for the administrative, financial, and risk management operations of the organization. These include but are not limited to the development of a financial and operational strategy, metrics tied to strategy, the ongoing development and monitoring of control systems designed to preserve company assets and report accurate financial results, oversight of organizational audit, and the overall management of the finance department.

Principal responsibilities include:

·         Monitor and direct the implementation of strategic business plans
·         Develop financial and tax strategies
·         Manage the capital request and budgeting processes

·         Maintain in-depth relations with all members of the management team
·         Oversee the financial operations of all programs
·         Initiate and implement financial internal controls for finance department
·         Manage any third parties to which functions have been outsourced
·         Oversee the company's transaction processing systems
·         Oversee employee benefit plans, with particular emphasis on maximizing a cost-effective benefits package

Financial Information
·         Oversee the issuance of financial information
·         Personally review and approve all forms and filings with the IRS and funding sources
·         Report financial results to the board of directors
Risk Management
·         Construct and monitor reliable control systems
·         Maintain appropriate insurance coverage
·         Ensure the organization complies with all legal and regulatory requirements
·         Ensure record keeping meets the requirements of auditors and government agencies
·         Report risk issues to the audit committee of the board of directors
·         Maintain relations with external auditors and investigate their findings and recommendation

Third Parties
·         Participate in conference calls with the funding sources and regulating agencies
·         Maintain banking relationships

All other duties as they pertain to the proper execution of this role.

  • Bachelors degree in accounting, finance or business administration, or equivalent business experience and 7+ years of progressively responsible experience for a major organization or division of a large non- profit
  • Experience in partnering with an executive team, and have a high level of written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience managing public funding specifically New York City funding.
  • Experience using the Health and Human Services Accelerator and other city and state fiscal management system
  • Experience with New York City's Department of Homeless Services preferred
  • MBA in Finance and the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) designations
